Lots of new motherboards lately have detected memory at the wrong voltage undervolting or overvolting. Then played for three more hours without even a hiccup. Last night I was able to play from 20 to 45 minutes before a hard lock. Only update your firmware if you have problems though, as it is not without risk and it is a bit of a hassle to boot in DOS. Intel really shot themselves with the heat sink mountings being so much more limited with the xeons. No doubt XFX is playing it safe, as this card features a 900MHz core clock, 975MHz memory clock, and a double lifetime warranty. I just tried the 9.11 drivers, and I saw the same grey texture glitch in the shops, and I was getting hopeful when I was able to play for around 30 I'll double check it tonight to be sure, though. Some motherboards add in options that can cause issues like this. more info here Some motherboards have jumpers for this maybe you can try checking what they are and see if something needs to be changed? However, it is my understanding that Intel's controller is programmed to minimize the effects of long term use. I'm going to try running the 9.11 beta drivers (seems to have helped some people), and failing that I'll start going through the more invasive tests you're recommending.

I kept resolution at 1980x1200 - same problem.
The EAH4890 we tested was an early factory overclocked model, designated by the TOP suffix, but these cards have been phased out in favor of a new factory over- clocked model Nice! It is no coincidence that there is a portion of 4xxx owners that had cards that worked fine with other games, and now they don't. we have the exact same software.
Want More? yet you want to assume you you have some wacky drivers or game thats unstable when so many of us are stable? For those reasons I'm not sure how much longer I'll keep the dual-screen setup, but I'm having fun with it while it lasts... There's a bunch of people on this thread that have definitely been victims of card overheating, unfortunately there's a bunch of us that don't seem to fall into that category :(
Linux is a nice alternative for me- since it is something new and tries to be familiar. i get like 50-70 fps constant with a 4670 and thats with 4x AA all settings max also ATI bring new drivers out every months, RE5 was fixed in one of Though Crunch-Bang is excellent... KDE4.0 was cutting edge and not finished, I remember when it came out that it looked promising, but I'd only consider it once it matured.
